I may have to circle back both to this book and this review at some point and add additional thoughts. Lots of journeying and talking, interspersed with really interesting fight scenes and odd uses of magic. But then his father is executed for treason, and he and his best friend, Cade, are thrown into a prison mine, doomed to work until they drop. His brutality was legendary and celebrated. So I picked up a book of what if scenarios in the remaindered section for my credit card purchase and a few weeks later the gift card arrived. Correia lives in Utah with his wife and family. There isn't as much intrigue and plotting in the second book but there is a bit more character development, to the point that Keta is also now an indestructible super powerful being with convenient magic powers.

I said it before and I'll say it again, Larry Correia is an amazing author and always manages to deliver great entertainment for his fans. In a series of flashback chapters, the story is revealed how he is chosen by the sword at age five.
Great audible narration by Tim Gerard Reynolds. Brisk fight scenes, lively characters, and plenty of black humor continue to make this series a real pleasure. Very unique, and evolving character. I like the way that Ashok is finally understanding barely that the Law is not all it's cracked up to be and that free will seems to have a place in the world. That is most of them for the past 26 or so years. It's a tasty cheeseburger of a fantasy book. But there is much more at risk in the continent of Lok.

A powerful epic fantasy evolves into a solid, compelling read. Their mission is to take the fight to the enemy and not get caught. The plotting is excellent, and Correia makes you care about the characters.
